At the most recent Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous, Taurus showed off one serious piece of hardware. The updated Taurus Raging Hunter now comes in a 10-inch variant, barking .460 S&W fury across the range. And yes, it was glorious.

Shooting the Massive Taurus Raging Hunter

Technically listed as a 10.5-inch barrel, the new Raging Hunter features a proprietary compensator to effectively tame the 460 beast. Putting rounds downrange proved its effectiveness in the field. Like other 460 handguns, the Raging Hunter equally handles .45 Colt and 454 Casull rounds, so you can make training and shooting sessions as easy or thumping as you like.

“So what we did was, we took the Raging Hunter platform, which always had the beefy barrel shroud, and we put it on a diet, and we’ve got a brand new compensator out front of it that really does a lot to help tame that 460 recoil,” said Caleb. “On top of it, we’ve got a Weaver rail, so you can mount whatever optics you like. If you want to put a magnified handgun scope on it you can, or you can just stick with a red dot for fast target acquisition.”

On February 12, 2021, Tactical Life reported:

The Taurus Raging Hunter line of revolvers is big and powerful. We like everything about it. In fact, we liked it so much that, if you remember correctly, we had a custom “Raging Predator” built. It’s just a Raging Hunter customized with everything we could think of from the movie “Predator,” and it’s amazing. But back to the new stuff. Well, this week the line got even bigger and more powerful with the release of the Taurus Raging Hunter in 460 S&W.

Taurus Raging Hunter 460 S&W Details

Taurus Raging Hunter 460 S&W Revolver, two tone

Previously, Taurus offered the Raging Hunter series in .454 Casull, .44 Magnum, and .357 Magnum/.38 Special +P. The new .460 S&W offering fits right into that group of big game-taking revolvers.

So what does the new offering look like? Firstly, there are two different color schemes: Black (see below) and two tone (see above). After that, there are also three different barrel lengths: 5.12 inches, 6.75 inches, and the lengthy 8.37 inches. Those barrel lengths correlate to overall lengths of 11.6 inches, 13.2 inches, and 14.9 inches. Downrange performance on that 8.37-inch barrel certainly piques our interest. It all comes down to what you’re more comfortable shooting.

As for other features, it’s all similar to the rest of the Raging Hunter series. The .460 S&W features a sleeved barrel construction for reduced weight. Taurus also included factory-tuned porting and a gas-expansion chamber to help reduce muzzle rise. Meanwhile, an integrated, full-length Picatinny rail along the barrel shroud makes optic installation easy.

For hunters who prefer open sights, the rear sight is fully adjustable for elevation and windage. Also, to help manage recoil and ensure positive, no-slip retention, the Taurus Raging Hunter 460 S&W comes with an ergonomic finger-groove grip with cushioned inserts.

“Handgun hunting is on the upswing as experienced hunters look to expand their options and, quite frankly, seek new and challenging ways to enjoy their hunting passion while putting healthy wild game on the table,” Taurus CEO Bret Vorhees said in a release. “… We are now answering the consumer demand for even more chamber options and downrange performance with the new Raging Hunter in .460 S&W.”

Lastly is MSRP, which comes in at $968.18 for the black version and $983.33 for the two tone. For even more info, please visit TaurusUSA.com.
