A new week, a new list of goodies we’ve tested and added to our collection, and so should you. Our “Gear Grab” cuts through all the BS and gives you gear that we actually use in the field.

Ballistic Gear Grab: FN 509 Tactical Pistol, Double Gun Storage

This week I’m looking at some new glass for my rifle. The Holosun HS510C is a sub-$400 package that, with its impressive build, might be the optic “Steal of the Year.”

Also on the list are Sig Sauer’s 308WIN 150gr Elite Ball FMJ ammunition, the Hackett Equipment Big Bertha Range Backpack, Troy’s SOCC Carbine, and Dixxon Flannel Co.

Take a closer look at this week’s list, including MSRPs, below.

Holosun HS510C

Unless you are a “brand whore,” this is a no-brainer.

A holographic sight with: Unlimited eye relief; 50,000 hours on one CR2032 batter; a solar power option; and your choice of a single 2 MOA dot, 2MOA dot inside a 65 MOA ring or just the 65 MOA ring. Mildly impressive so far, right?

Now add motion activation and a shock resistant titanium-alloyed hood and I challenge you to find a weapon sight with this many features for this price.

MSRP: $353

Troy SOCC CQB Carbine

Troy has been quietly producing some of the best rifles on the market, and the SOCC CQB (Special Operations Compatible Carbine) makes me want to take out a second mortgage and file some new ATF paperwork.

The select-fire version has already been adopted by some law enforcement, but Troy has made the semi-auto version available to the general public.

The 6.08-pound rifle is light and rocks Troy’s collapsible Tomahawk stock. It also features flat-top upper with low-profile Troy Folding BattleSights — both front and rear — a forged lower receiver with a CMC trigger, Troy’s BattleAxe fire control group and an M-LOK rail out front.

The 10.5-inch 1-in-7 twist barrel sports a 3-prong flash suppressor that fits a Silencerco Omega suppressor like a glove. Time to fill out that paperwork and start that tax-stamp countdown!

MSRP: $1,599

Sig Sauer 308WIN 150gr Elite Ball FMJ

Guess what? SIG decided to make ammo, and it is serious about it. The latest addition to the lineup is the .308 Winchester magnum ball.

If you are a hunter, target shooter or use the .308 in your SCAR 17 for home defense, you understand the importance of consistency. SIG’s 308WIN ball mimics the performance of the manufacturer’s hunting and target ammo by using the same primer propellants. The ball ammo gives you quality trigger pulls and target feedback without feeling like you are throwing dollar bills downrange.

MSRP: $26.95

Hackett Equipment Big Bertha Range Backpack

If you need to take your gun room to the range with you, this is your range bag. This backpack has pockets for everything. It has survived a basement flood, being tossed in and out of vehicles, and hit with shrapnel from a plate rack.

The 21x19x30-inch bag is made from 900D polyester material with adjustable padded straps. Hackett’s website says that the bag holds up to 50 pounds and can hold, “four full-size handguns, pouches for 12 boxes of Ammo, 15 elastic magazine holders, storage divider for Standard Competition Pistol Targets.”

What Hackett doesn’t say is that you can stuff almost anything inside of the partially zipped bag. If you’re not careful, you will look like the overachieving grade school kid that carries every book in his locker in his backpack.

If Bertha is too much for you to handle, check out the EDC range backpack. You can run around town all day with you range gear strapped to your back without alarming the guy behind you in the Walmart checkout line.

MSRP: $99.99

You know that flannel shirt that you wear once or twice a year because it needs to be dry-cleaned if you don’t want it to shrink? This ain’t that kinda flannel.

Dixxon Flannel Co. was started in a Southern California garage by Danny Dreyer, a Harley mechanic. This is already a cool story. Dreyer was tired of flannel that needed special care to look good. So, like any good Southern California motorcycle mechanic would do, he fixed the problem.

Dixxon Flannels can be washed and come out of the dryer wrinkle free and still be the most comfortable and durable flannel shirts available.

What I really like about the brand is its ability to remain true to the culture it was born into. Everything about the brand says, “find an open road and be a badass” … even if you are just jumping in a minivan to get milk for the kids.

Starting MSRP: $59.99 (depending on the style)
