A pistol caliber carbine is an excellent tool for a number of applications — home defense, competition, recreational shooting, training, and as an on-the-go “truck gun” as well. Well, the Falkor Defense FG-9 is the manufacturer’s first entry into the PCC game. You can tell Falkor didn’t want to mess it up … and it didn’t.

Examining the Falkor FG-9 PCC Build

Falkor makes its FG-9 9mm pistols from the highest quality materials and workmanship available. Designed as a blow-back pistol, the FG-9 locks the bolt open on the last shot. It’s a welcomed addition and this lock back actually works flawlessly. Falkor designed its patent pending last round bolt hold open system to have a more robust construction and better magazine compatibility. It’s an excellent feature for a pistol caliber carbine.

The FG-9 comes with a 5.5-inch barrel, covered nicely with a 5-inch M-LOK hand guard. Falkor even throws its very own hand stop on the handguard for a little added protection since the barrel is so short. Flakor also equipped it with its ambi charging handle and a Radian ambi 45-degree safety selector, which I absolutely love.

The FG-9 uses standard Glock mags, so there’s no need to buy expensive or hard-to-find mags. It’s just a nice feature because if you already carry a Glock, you obviously have interchangeable mags. Overall, it makes it easy to switch from sidearm to carbine quickly without having to locate different magazines or worry about multiple calibers of ammo.

Not Just Another PCC

Let’s focus on the PCC aspect again. The FG-9 isn’t just another pistol caliber carbine. You’ve probably heard that before, but Falkor actually worked hard to fix common problems that PCCs regularly have.

Firstly, Falkor constructed the main lever arm from solid steel on a single-plane swivel for consistent movement, compared to a freely moving arm. Blending functionality with form, all FG-9 pistols also feature a large flared magwell to assist in quicker reloads. Meanwhile, all upper/lower receiver sets are mated to one another for a precise, no-rattle fitment.

The FG-9 comes with the SB Tactical SB3A brace and an adjustable buffer, which is great for those shooting suppressed. Then there’s the Hogue rubber over mold pistol grip, which I personally love the feel of.

Falkor FG-9 Testing

I tested the FG-9 at the 2020 Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous in Idaho. It ran smoothly and flawlessly on the range. This thing just wants to run and you can’t help but do what it wants: run it hard and fast.

There’s very little muzzle rise and minimal setback. Even the most recoil-sensitive shooter can run this pistol without any issues. It’s pretty easy to deliver fast, accurate follow-up shots. Accuracy was excellent shooting supported or shooting with no support while standing. Even in some crazy wind and dust in a field in Idaho I had no problem banging steel at 50 yards.

One thing that stood out was the speed of the FG-9 and also the lack of heat it produced. I fed at least 150 rounds through the FG-9 in about 15 minutes with the last 50 rounds dumped very quickly with no stopping. The “mag dumping” wasn’t so much to test the gun. No, it was more because it was the last booth of the day and Falkor had ammo loaded in magazines. Honestly, I was having too much fun with the damn gun. The titanium muzzle break was barely even warm immediately after that 50-round mag dump.

Final Thoughts

The Falkor Defense FG-9 definitely looks to be the perfect gun for pretty much any shooter looking to fill any role. It not only looks amazing, but shoots just as well. In the end, it’s an incredibly well balanced and well-thought out PCC that fills just about any roll.

The fact that Falkor makes pretty much all of the parts in house for the FG-9 really ups the value in my book. The gun just feels better than any other pistol caliber carbine I’ve handled in the past. There’s no rattle and all the parts work and look great together. The small pop of red on the magazine release is a nice touch as well.

With an MSRP of $1,574, the FG-9 is definitely a bit on the higher end of the PCC spectrum. However, I think you’ll realize it’s actually a bargain once you shoot it for the first time. For more info, please visit FalkorDefense.com.
